- Description: Turn an Android tablet sideways and the Payment app now shows your product catalog and the sale side by side, like a countertop register.

The Payment app now turns an Android tablet into a proper point of sale. Turn your tablet sideways and your product catalog sits on the left, the sale sits on the right, and both stay on screen for the entire checkout. If you already have a Pixel Tablet, a Galaxy Tab or another Android tablet behind the counter, it can now work like [a register built for your Stripe account](https://paymentforstripe.com/stripe-pos?ref=blog.payment.co&utm%5Fsource=blog.payment.co&utm%5Fmedium=referral&utm%5Fcampaign=android-tablet-point-of-sale-for-stripe&utm%5Fcontent=inline).

We recently [rebuilt the Android app](https://blog.payment.co/payment-app-android-redesign/) and brought it up to match the iPhone app. This update brings over the new iPad layout too, so a sale looks and behaves the same way whichever tablet you prefer.

### How does it work?

Tap a product and it lands on the sale ticket on the right, with the quantity, subtotal and total updating as you go. Tap it again to add another, or use the − and + buttons to adjust. Products with several prices open their options in place, so a long catalog stays easy to get through.

When you're ready, tap Next. The payment step slides into the left side while the ticket stays put, so you and your customer can both see what is being charged. With a card reader connected, the reader status and customer details appear on the left and the Begin transaction button sits on the ticket.

> Imagine the following scenario: it's the lunch rush and a customer wants an avocado toast, two cappuccinos and a croissant. Four taps put all of it on the ticket, the total reads $24.45, and one more tap starts the payment. If you clear the cart by mistake, the Undo button brings it right back.

### What if I just want to type an amount?

Tap the keypad button above your products and the keypad takes the catalog's place, with the ticket still on the right. The + key adds several amounts together, and each one shows up as its own line on the ticket. The app remembers which side you used last, so it opens to whatever you reach for most. If a keyboard is connected to your tablet, typing a number brings the keypad in on its own.

### List or grid?

Your products can show as a list or as a grid of photo tiles, three across on a tablet. The grid works on phones as well, and we covered it in more detail in [a separate post](https://blog.payment.co/product-grid-view-payment-app/).

### Which tablets are supported?

Tablets running Android 10 or later. The side-by-side layout appears when the tablet is in landscape and you have products in Stripe. In portrait, the app uses the same layout as on a phone.

The app works with every Stripe Terminal reader we support, including the Bluetooth Stripe Reader M2 and WisePad 3 and the countertop WisePOS E and S700\. You can also key in a card by hand.

### Availability

The new tablet layout is available now in the latest version of Payment for Stripe on Google Play. If you have automatic updates turned on, you may already have it. As always, email us at support@pocketvendor.com if anything looks off.
