Stripe emails receipts out of the box, but plenty of customers still want a piece of paper. Whether you can hand them one depends on which reader you use and how you take the payment. Here's how printing works with Stripe today, and what to do if your reader doesn't have a printer.

##### Which Stripe card reader has a printer?

Only one: the Verifone V660p. It's a countertop reader with a built-in thermal printer, and according to Stripe, it's the only Terminal reader that can print. The Stripe Reader M2, WisePOS E, S700, S710 and T600 don't have printers, and neither does Tap to Pay on your phone.

The V660p is currently sold to US Stripe accounts through your Stripe Dashboard, and processes at Stripe's standard in-person rates. We covered the hardware in more detail in [our V660p post](https://blog.payment.co/verifone-v660p-stripe-reader-with-printer/).

##### Printing receipts with the Payment app

The Payment app runs directly on the V660p. After a sale, tap Receipt, then Print, and the reader prints a customer receipt. It includes:

- Your business name, plus the date and time of the sale
- The items, discounts, tax and tip, when the sale has them
- The total and the card details
- A QR code that opens the full online receipt

If the printer runs out of paper or the cover is open, the app tells you so. The payment itself is already done and is never affected by a printing problem.

##### Printing receipts in Stripe's standalone mode

If you run the V660p in Stripe's standalone mode instead, the reader handles receipts itself. After each payment, it asks the customer whether they want a printed or an emailed receipt, and it does the same for failed payments and refunds. In some circumstances that's all a business needs, especially at a busy counter where nobody wants to type an email address.

Keep in mind that a reader runs either the Payment app or standalone mode, not both at once.

##### What if my reader doesn't have a printer?

Every Stripe card payment comes with an online receipt. In the Payment app, you can email it to the customer right after the sale, or share the receipt link and print it from any computer or phone like a regular web page. In most cases, customers are perfectly happy with an email, and it's one less thing for them to lose.

The Payment app doesn't connect to separate counter printers, like the ones from Star or Epson, today. If paper receipts are a must at your counter, the V660p is the simplest way to get them.

##### What has to be on a card receipt?

Card networks require you to offer every in-person customer a receipt, either printed or by email. For chip and contactless payments, the receipt also has to show a few technical fields, like the card's application name and its AID. Stripe's email receipts include them automatically, and so do receipts printed from the Payment app, so you don't have to think about it.
