The Payment app works wherever Stripe does. If you can open a Stripe account in your country, you can connect it to the app and start charging, in 135+ presentment currencies. The real question, and the one behind most of the "does this work in my country?" emails we get, is about hardware: which card readers and which features are available where you are.
Where Stripe operates
Stripe supports businesses in 40+ countries across North America, Europe, Asia-Pacific and beyond. Your Stripe account's country determines your settlement currency (what arrives in your bank account) and which Terminal hardware you can register. Stripe maintains the authoritative list on their site, and it grows steadily.
Reader availability by country
Hardware availability varies more than account availability:
| Hardware | Where |
|---|---|
| Tap to Pay | US, UK, Canada, Australia, France, Germany, Ireland, Netherlands + more |
| Stripe Reader M2 | US only |
| WisePad 3 | 20+ countries: Canada, Australia, Singapore, UK, most of Europe |
| WisePOS E | 15+ countries |
| Stripe Reader S700/S710 | Stripe Terminal countries incl. US, UK, Canada, Australia, most of Europe |
| Verifone V660p | US |
Manual card entry and payment links work everywhere the app does, since they need no hardware at all.
The countries we get asked about most
Canada. Yes. Stripe operates in Canada, and Canadian accounts get Tap to Pay plus the WisePad 3 and WisePOS E readers.
Australia. Yes. Tap to Pay and the WisePad 3 are both available, and Stripe's in-person rates apply locally.
Singapore. Yes. Stripe operates in Singapore and the WisePad 3 reader is available there. Singapore accounts are also eligible for Stripe's Instant Payouts.
The UK and Europe. Broad support: Tap to Pay in the UK, France, Germany, Ireland and the Netherlands, and the WisePad 3 across most of the continent. We first wrote about the European reader program back in 2021, when it was a limited beta: https://blog.payment.co/international-stripe-terminal-card-readers/ It's long since generally available.
One account, one country
A detail that catches people: your Stripe account is tied to one country, and readers must be used in that country. If you sell in multiple countries, you'll need a Stripe account per country. Charging customers from other countries is no problem at all; it's your business location that's fixed, not your customers'.
Currencies are the other half of the international story: presentment vs settlement, conversion fees and zero-decimal currencies. We covered those here: https://blog.payment.co/which-currencies-does-stripe-support/
